Yesterday, residents and staff at King William Care Home came together to celebrate the momentous occasion of Joyce’s 90th birthday and had the privilege of The Salvation Army coming to play at the event.
Joyce’s connection to the Salvation Army runs deep. Her parents were dedicated officers in the organisation, and as a young girl, she experienced life in various locations, including Scotland, Ireland, Newcastle, and Ilkeston. It was in Ilkeston where Joyce crossed paths with Derek, her beloved husband.
While Derek found his passion in music and became a prominent member of the Salvation Army band, Joyce discovered her love for singing as a member of the songsters. The Salvation Army became an integral part of her life, and she would consistently attend their services three times a day on Sundays, immersing herself in the uplifting music.
Residents and staff expressed their deep gratitude to The Salvation Army for their thoughtful gesture and thanked them for making the day even more special. The heartfelt music evoked memories, brought smiles to faces, and created a sense of unity among all those present.
