As a care organisation Ashmere Derbyshire Ltd is very passionate about the care they deliver to all of their residents, inclusively. We endeavour to enable our residents to live well, either with or without dementia. As we are aware living well with a dementia is not always an easy thing to do. We know that there are many factors that can disrupt a person’s opportunity to live well including aspects of the physical environment; no access to meaningful activities; restrictions placed on them due to fear and over-protection and the attitude of staff.
Our philosophy at Ashmere is to enhance the chances of our residents reaching the goal of living well with a dementia by providing our staff with the skills they need to facilitate this. We do this by providing a bespoke dementia training programme to all of our staff to reflect the needs of all of our residents, including positive risk taking and we are currently moving to an electronic care plan system, throughout all our homes, to enhance staff time spent on positive interaction and less time on paperwork. In three of our homes we offer accommodation in a smaller household to reflect the need for a quieter, enabling, environment and a need for a higher ratio of staff to resident numbers. In all of our homes we have enthusiastic activity co-ordinators who work tirelessly to provide meaningful, fun and therapeutic activities over 7 days a week. We recognise that music plays an important role in accessing memories and offers a therapeutic medium for conversation; belonging and
We have established working partnerships with various companies who we feel reflect our philosophy including Person Centred Software, who provide an innovative mobile solution for evidencing care interactions and care planning; Renray Healthcare, suppliers of dementia friendly furniture solutions and Quality Compliance Systems policy and procedures service, which supports us to be CQC compliant under The Care Act 2014 and the Health and Social Care Act 2008.
