Danielle’s Story –
I joined Ashmere in March 2014, based at The Firs Nursing Home. My journey into the care sector started unexpectedly, while on my final day working at Tesco, a care home manager mentioned available positions and extended an invitation for a visit. Sparking my interest I went to visit the home and have been with Ashmere ever since.
At first, I was presented with the option to choose between the roles of Care Assistant or Dementia Support Worker. At that time, no additional qualifications were necessary for the Dementia role, and it seemed like something I would truly enjoy, so I decided to pursue that opportunity. I quickly developed a passion for working with individuals living with dementia, I was later offered a senior position at Valley Lodge which I took, my senior role then later led onto me become the Dementia lead within Valley Views.
Ashmere has been instrumental in my development, supporting my progression through funding my level 2, 3, and 5 qualifications and additional training. My goal is to continue advancing, with aspirations for the Deputy Manager role in the future. While I have worked hard to elevate Valley Views, I am not ready to leave yet, as I value the environment and support provided by Ashmere.
Residents are the heart of my role, no two people are the same, everyone brings a unique personality, which is why a person-centred approach is so important. Working with our residents and being supported with by an incredible care and activities team at Valley Lodge makes work a joy. While residents may not always recall my name, they do recognise my face and my dog Clive. I am forever getting amusing reactions when I’ve not done my eyelashes.
I love forming connections with our residents and their loved ones. I also really enjoy organising special events like the recent Christmas party where we spent quality time chatting, building relationships, and celebrating together. Being able to do special things like this is so fulfilling and really makes me feel like we are making a difference to peoples lives.
While at Ashmere I have witnessed personal growth and experienced a supportive family-like atmosphere. My work satisfaction comes from knowing that we are making a positive impact on our residents, fostering their growth and well-being.
Why Ashmere?
Ashmere has always had a very family feel, I have never been afraid to contact anyone in the company. I can go to head office and know that I can talk to anyone that I need to. I might message first but I know that the support is there. I’s very different to a corporate environment. Everything is so available and the company speaks for its self when people leave and end up come back to work.
